Nonsan

Gwan Chok Sa Temple

Text: From Puyo we took a bus to Nonsan and visited Gwan Chok Sa temple, built on a hill outside of town. We sat on the hillside above the temple compound and rested for a while under the trees. Afterwards we went into town and found the church, where we met a few people that Helena knew. We got back to the bus terminal just in time to catch the last bus back to Chonan at 7:00.

(Page 2) Gwan Chok Sa's Buddha statue, with its impressive hat, is the tallest standing stone Buddha in Korea.

Background Paper: Thai unryu from The Paper Web, Daphne natural lightweight from Daniel Smith on side.

The two halves of the layout were scanned at different times on two different machines. They really are the same color.

When I say "found the church" I mean that quite literally--they had moved since the last time I was there. They previously met in a little rented building in the market, over a grocery store and under a weight loss clinic. Fortunately some people in the market were able to tell us where the new building was.

The video from this visit is really funny. Doug in the gate of the Heavenly Kings: "And here we have the North King, and this one's...oh, this one's the North King. And this one over here...no wait, maybe this one's the North King. One of these is the North King." (not verbatim but you get the idea!)
