Cranes Frontspiece

Background Paper: kinwashi (white) from Daniel Smith.

This is the first thing you see when you open the album. I copied the design from a machine-embroidered wall hanging that we bought at Nam Dae Mun market in Seoul. I scanned it, enlarged it a little, and traced the shapes onto different colored papers using the graphite transfer method. It took about two days to get everything cut out and glued down.

 The crane motif is a common symbol.
